Love Begins In The Kitchen

Working Granite Mother daughter Cooking

In 1931, Valentine Rausch worked as a salesman and office manager for the Columbia Granite Co., a quarry and retail monument sales company owned by Dewey Kaddatz and Roy Steiner.

Val purchased Dewey Kaddatz's share of Columbia Granite, Co. in 1934 and became a partner to Roy Steiner. The company was renamed to Steiner-Rausch Granite Co.

Val’s sons Norbert, Severin, Herman, and Eugene Rausch, took over the retail portion in 1948. This granite company was named Rausch Brothers Granite Co.

The brothers operated a granite slab-sawing shop alongside their granite monument business. This equipment enabled them to saw blocks of granite from the Steiner-Rausch quarry and then sell to other companies.

In 1961 Herman opened Rausch Monuments in Rapid City, a monument retail company and has since continued to work alongside Rausch Brothers Granite Company to this day.

Rausch Monuments purchased a property at 2020 Jackson Blvd. The property was later converted into a strip mall where Rausch Monuments stood as a store front for several more years.

In 1985, Chuck Rausch, Herman’s eldest son, took over Rausch Monuments.

In 2005 Rausch Monuments moved to 1116 Jackson Blvd, equipped with a beautiful showroom to showcase monuments. The showroom also houses Moda Stone products, the Rausch’s second granite company.

Moda Stone sells granite countertops and fireplace surrounds. Our full-production monument shop is located in the back of our space, where we design, layout, and sandblast each custom-made monument.
